1. Yahaya Bello Refuses To Wear Face Mask After Meeting With President Buhari

Governor Yahaya Bello of Kogi state today was spotted without a face mask during a meeting with President Buhari in Abuja today. The president today held a meeting with governors of the APC to discuss the ongoing crisis in the party.

While the other All Progressives Congress (APC) governors who were with him had their masks on during a media briefing after the meeting, Bello was the only one who did not have his face covered. This is coming a few weeks after the governor debunked claims that the novel coronavirus was present in his state insisting that his state was coronavirus free.

2. Update: Lagos State Discharges 36 COVID-19 Patients

The Lagos State government today announced that it has discharge of 36 more COVID-19 patients who had tested negative for the virus. The Lagos Ministry of Health made this known via its Twitter handle. The ministry said the number of discharged patients from the isolation centres in the state was now 1,364.

3. FG To Establish Community Support Centres For COVID-19 Management

The Minister of Health, Dr. Osagie Ehanire, today announced that the Federal Government will establish Community Support Centres in selected clusters of Local Government Areas across the country for the management of COVID-19 cases. Ehanire disclosed this at the Presidential Task Force briefing.

“Bearing in mind the importance of managing cases in facilities, the Federal Ministry of Health through the National Primary Healthcare Development Agency has developed a guideline for the establishment of Community Support Centres. “A central objective of this guideline is the establishment of CSCs in selected clusters of Local Government Areas for the management of COVID-19 cases.

4. Lagos State Approves 7 Private Labs For COVID-19 Testing

The Lagos State Government has authorised seven private laboratories as Covid-19 testing centres. The commissioner for health, Prof Akin Abayomi revealed this earlier today during the daily press briefing. He said the decision was taken to improve COVID-19 testing in the state.

Lagos StateHe noted that seven local government areas including Eti-Osa, Alimosho, Kosofe, Ikeja, Oshodi, Surulere and Lagos Mainland have the highest number of infections in the state. “As Lagos continuously attempts to open up various aspects of its economy, it is imperative that Covid-19 tests are widely available to members of the public. In a bid to ramp up its testing capacity, Lagos State Government has taken a strategic decision to include private laboratories in the testing of Covid-19.

5. A Victim Was Denied Food For 40 Days By SARS Operatives, Says Amnesty International

Operatives of the Special Anti-Robbery Squad (SARS), an arm of the Nigerian Police have been accused of illegally arresting and torturing innocent citizens.

The SARS operatives who have been severally accused of human rights violations are said to have made predominantly male between the ages of 18 and 35, from low-income backgrounds and other vulnerable groups their primary targets.

Furthermore, a fresh report by Amnesty International (AI), a human rights organization has accused the SARS operatives of torturing and killing people on at least 82 occasions since January, 2017.
