I found it very much important to send you this message after taking a look at happenings across the world and Nigeria in particular.
It is no more news that the Coronavirus pandemic is killing a number of people, regardless of age, status or gender.
We all mourned the late Chief of Staff to President Muhammadu Buhari, Mallam Abba Kyari. We are all witnesses to the fact that the pandemic has infected many prominent Nigerians, including governors and others.
Just yesterday, the Lagos East Senator, Osinowo, was reportedly killed by this novel disease.
This time, we are still praying for former Oyo State governor, Abiola Ajimobi, to come out of this disease. News has it that he has slipped into coma and has been on ventilator for days without any improvement. This is scary. May God almighty rescue him.
I looked at the narrative and everything seems gloomy and cloudy. Nobody could have believed that we can still be losing prominent Nigerians to this virus after the sad demise of Abba Kyari.
It was not that the likes of Ajimobi did not stay safe. It was not that they were not careful enough, but one thing must have led to another and they eventually had the disease.
For this reason, I have decided to send this message to all our Yoruba leaders, starting from former President Olusegun Obasanjo, Vice President Yemi Osinbajo, Asiwaju Bola Ahmed Tinubu, Senator Ibikunle Amosun, Chief Olusegun Osoba, Babatunde Raji Fashola, Pastor Enoch Adeboye, Bishop David Oyedepo, Sheik Muyideen Ajani Bello, Rauf Aregbesola, Akinwunmi Ambode, Femi Okurounmu, Ayo Adebanjo, Gbenga Daniel, Ayo Fayose, Doyin Okupe, Segun Mimiko, Rasheed Ladoja, Alao Akala, the Alaafin of Oyo, the Ooni of Ife and all Yoruba Obas.
It is also a message to all South West governors, all South West Senators and House of Representatives members, all House of Assembly members from the South West, all present and former political office holders from the South West and all Yoruba religious leaders, activists, leaders, professionals and others who are not politicians.
The message is simple: Stay safe!
You may think a nobody like me should not be the one telling you to stay safe. But, it will be advisable if you can truly read and abide by this message. If you love them, read it and send to them.
Can you please limit your access to a number of people? Can you stop attending political gatherings for now? Can you hire the services of health workers to stay by your side all the time? This time around, you need more of health workers than security agents.
Can you please wear your face masks and sanitise your hands from time to time? Can you sensitise your children, domestic staffs and aides to stop them from bringing Coronavirus home when they go to markets or visit people out there?
We should realise that many young people around the world will have the disease but they will not show symptoms. However, this does not mean they cannot infect others.
Because of your age and many underlying health conditions, you may be prone to COVID-19 and surviving it might seem very difficult. We don't want you to die, that is why I am sending this message to you all.
It is not that I like you people; it is not that some of you have not done something unfair to us as Yorubas, but we don't want you to die.
The reason is this, through you, we have a voice in Nigeria. You are our representatives. You are the reason why what belongs to us has not eluded us. You are the ones standing up for us in times of trouble.
Take a clue from Pastor Adeboye, he said he would not attend church yet with his wife and grandchildren, because of their ages. That's how to stay safe.
Aside from being Yoruba leaders, you are the breadwinners of your families. You are the reason why some people live. You have many dependants, some of whom you don't even know. Please live for them.
To all of us in Nigeria, please learn from this message and ensure you share it to your loved ones.
Nobody should die of Coronavirus again. It doesn't matter where you come from. We must all stay safe. Stop saying it's a scam. It is not!
We youths must learn to stay safe so that we won't end up killing our aged parents out of ignorance.
This is a clarion call to all of us.
