Godwin Akwaji, lawmaker representing Obudu constituency at the Cross River state house of assembly, has died after showing symptoms of COVID-19.
Reports say he died at the University of Calabar Teaching Hospital Isolation Centre at around 12:30pm on Thursday.
The lawmaker was said to be diabetic and also exhibited fatigue, fever, breathlessness and cough.
However, a source reported that the deceased was treated for malaria and pneumonia and didn’t improve from the medications administered to him.
The same source also added that some persons who visited the lawmaker at the hospital are already showing symptoms of COVID-19.
Cross River still remains the only state where any case of COVID-19 has not been confirmed in the country.
As at yesterday, the Nigeria Centre for Disease Control (NCDC) has confirmed that a total of 17735 have been infected with the deadly virus in the country.
