The Joint Admission and Matriculation Board (JAMB) this Tuesday afternoon announced the cut-off mark for admission into Nigerian Universities.
The announcement was made by the boards Registrar, Prof. Ishaq Oloyede.
According to him, the new cut-off mark for admission into tertiary institutions now stands at 160 and above.
In addition to this, Prof. Oloyede said that the polytechnics cut-off mark is put at 120 and above while that of the Colleges of Education stands at 100 and above.
According to the registrar, a total of 612,557 candidates were offered admission in 2019 while a total of 1,157,977 candidates had the required five credits in English and Mathematics among those who sat for the exam last year.
He said “Out of 1,157,977 candidates who sat for UTME in 2019, about 612,557 were admitted,”
It is not yet clear how the present situation in the country will play out for students in the light of the COVID-19 restrictions and its stark reality that we may have to live with while changing our everyday lifestyle.
Nigerians await to see how the next JAMB matriculation exam will be conducted in the light of the above and how the situation will be managed.
The board as it appears might have to adopt online mode of administering the examination even though the modalities for doing this will be another pot of concern.
